Default stock vs poly motor mounts

i just bought a cherokee that has solid poly-lined motor mounts. the rig has a lot of vibration at idle. what is the advantage of the solid motor mounts? i am considering switching them out to factory rubber. i plan on "mild" trail riding, but you know how that is. on rare occasion it might get extreme! should i keep what i got or switch?

Stock rubber motor mounts suck and dont last very long. They are basically large rubber blocks with sheet metal wrapped around it so it doesnt take much to break them.

Do you what brand they are?

Looking into brown bag or ironman4x4 motor mounts.

i don't know what brand they are. the guy is supposed to send me a list of all the mods he has done. i post it when i get it.

is there anything i can do lessen the vibration at idle? it is kind of annoyinig hearing everything rattle and watching the rear view shake.

There's not much you can do but replace it with a rubber mount

Even in mild situations, the OEM mounts will break. Keep the poly mounts, and just get used to the vibes...FYI, mild wheeling will soon turn into wild wheeling, just sayin...

^ ha true. FWIW, i have a set of the Ironman4x4 motor mounts and they were harsh when i 1st installed them. I thought i made a mistake and wouldnt like them, but a few hundred miles later it either dont notice the engine vibrations or the mounts just wore in and soften up. I think the latter but what do i know

Stock motor mounts last quite a while. I have almost 200K miles on my jeep and stock mounts. They are now due to be replaced, which I order IronMan mounts. They are on back order right now if anyone is lookin to order them.
I would say keep the ones you got as well. Poly bushings will make vibes more noticeable. But no one buys a XJ for it's sports car like handling and performance.
Power transfer is better with aftermarket mounts as well.

They last if you keep it on the payment and baby it. Mine only lasted ~6 months and i dont even consider myself a serious offroader (yet, damn college)

I've never had an issue with stock motor mounts. The ones in my old Cherokee lasted 3 years of mild/moderate wheeling, 2 years of moderate/hard wheeling, and a head on accident at 40 with an F350. I'm not sure how old they were beyond that as I only had that Jeep for about 5 years.

lots of guys that wheel hard have them wear out and even break the brackets themselves. the design is ok, just not intended to have to support that heavy engine being jerked around as you jump around on rocks
