Hey all, I'm wanting to put a cone filter on my stock intake bc I know it'll run better w/o the air restriction. Question is what do I do with all the vacuum lines? 1990 i6 4.0 l aw4 xj

1 Ractive Cone w/ heat shield
1 ABS Roof Vent
a bit of checker plate allum.
straight up off TB through hood, 12 extra inches of intake height
remove rubber snorkel from airbox to TB, leave airbox and all lines attached in stock positions and voila! one redneck cowell induction

Instead of screwing up all of that air box and really adding nothing to a stock 4.0 other that problems just buy a K&N filter for your stock air box. I gave all the cone filter aluminum tubes, hooks-ups the works to someone for the stock assembly. If you have a heavily modified 4.0 Stroker, Turbo or a Blower motor then go to modified air intake.
With the stock air box you can keep out a lot of under hood heat and water/mud splashed from tires up into engine compartment. A few mods to the stock box lets it get cooler air and that does help.
People need to think about what they really add to a 4.0 with some of these mods, other than money for nothing gained.
If you can show it to me any meaningful gains on a dyno over a baseline pull I will pay like I always have on race motors. But a 4.0 is just a VG stock engine for the XJ one of the best that a few mods help and I have done but a lot are smoke and mirrors IMHO.

Thanx brother, could have routed it that way but this was easy & cheap $30 for filter, $11.99 for roof vent, $6 worth of allum. checker plate and about an hr. of time. You get better cold air flow this way! No restrictions on flow, no fire path through the fire wall & the cone seems to amplify the sound of the intake of air, mine sounded like a little jet taking off
Fred is dead on with what he posted! Unless your going extreme the stock config with a K&N filter is all the motor needs. I did this to a play truck just to be trick and different from the rest of the buggies, but it did work well! Unless you build your motor to make use of the new air a fancy cold air intake is basically cosmetic

Do whatever mods you feel like doing. Don't let a few guys **** on your campfire. People love to cry snake oil. Speaking of oil some think certain brands of oil have magical properties and spend hours discussing them.
