Well its come time to do the steering on my XJ. been looking at a lot of diff. kits and I am leaning to the CavFab cfk0001 but also like the 1 ton option. Getting ready to pull the trigger but thought I would ask everybody there thoughts on this for a driver I will be driving my XJ on the road as well as off road so need to keep it safe for high way use also what's your thoughts on what I should go with?

Look at Curectlync from Currie Enterprises. Easy install. I have been very happy with mine & it has survived a lot of serious trails all over Utah & Colorado.

 

Notice that many kits eliminate the steering stabilizer. What happens to road ride quality?

 

Steering stabilizer is vital to helping prevent Death Wobble. Virtually all aftermarket steering stabilizers include a bolt on clamp rather than using the original equipment hole.
The clamp accommodates different drag link/tie rod thicknesses & angles. Make sure the clamps are torqued down so they stay put & don't slide around.

A properly set up steering system won't need a stabilizer. A stabilizer only masks a problem.

I haven't run a stabilizer in a long, long time

 

FWIW I run OTK for my steering and track bar.

 

That's like an old wives tale. I had a completely blown stabilizer shock on a few XJs and MJs and never had death wobble.

 

Make sure your steering components are good, and you won't need clamps, or stabilizers.

A steering stabilizer masks death wobble caused by other failing or incorrectly set up components. A properly setup and function front end will not need a stabilizer at all.

 

Entirely false. A steering stabilizer provides a nice on-road experience by damping the response to road imperfections. If you have Death Wobble, it has nothing to do with your stabilizer. The only thing the stabilizer does is mask the problem until one of two things happens: The stabilizer wears out prematurely, or the actual problem proceeds to get worse until the stabilizer can't hide it anymore.

I had DW on my Cherokee with a stabilizer installed. It went away when I fixed the problem with my track bar bolt. My Wrangler didn't get DW with factory steering and a stabilizer. It still doesn't get DW with my crossover steering setup and no stabilizer. But it did get DW when my wheels were out of balance.

There are a lot of things that can cause death wobble, but a steering stabilizer is not and never will be the deciding factor there.

 

 

If you have death wobble, you have bigger problems than a steering stabilizer. I'd be looking at TRE's, bearings or control arm bushings.
