Default Spectre CAI troubleshooting problem! HELP!

Hello!

so I've been running a spectre CAI for a few months and i love it.

HOWEVER, I've opened up Pandora's box recently~!

Often, the engine(inline 6) will not turn over and will require me to re-secure the middle connection. so I've got to re-seat the filter, silicon coupler (bought independently from spectre, though nappa. the first coupler was junk.) & then re-seat the clamps.

so then it will turn over but the idle can sound super rough and on occasion will stall out.

i put the air intake on and at the same time i redid the entire air intake/exhaust system. items that are new: spectre air intake, throttle body 62mm, new TPS, cleaned intake manifold, mustang 4 hole injectors, banks header, front pipe, upstream/downstream air sensors, catalytic converter & Gibson high flow exhaust.

so i'm crankin' air thru her! i'm blowing up ECM codes and while i've really started heavily trying to solve this i'm feeling like i'm all over the place trying to diagnose it.

i love the intake and want it but it's been interesting trying to figure all this out. I can't find any spectre dealers near me in Colorado so if anyone know of one lemme know!

i think ultimately i'm just going to change all couplers but that's almost more expensive than the original kit! so hopefully i can either get some help here or from spectre, though honestly not the best support from them.

Get a 3" coupler from HD for 3" plumbing pipe. Its just a few bucks, but the spectre will never come undone. You have to lube up the coupler and use a slotted screwdriver to help get it over the filter can, but it is worth it.

Everytime I'd wheel, it would come detached. Not any more.

yea, tried all those at HD then... none worked. bought one from spectre which was better than the original but problem persists... thinking i need to electronically diagnose this and then take it all apart, clean and re-seat/seal before i change all couplers, which is my next step

Ya I meant Home Depot. Here are some pics of the coupler. Nevada is good, gotta clean the filter a lot, because of all of the powder dirt.

3". The 4" was way to big, this one is a lil small. That's where the lube and screwdriver come in. But it won't come apart till I tell it to!

Never had a problem with mine. Sounds like you have a TB issue. Mine cranks and runs fine even without the Spectre installed. It runs fine on an open TB as well as it does sucking thru a filter.
You might check your cowl, you may have a stoppage that's starving it for air.

I agree. If it runs like crap with the spectre off, it's not the spectre. If only with it on, check cowl and make sure filter is clean, and you took the protective plastic off of it....

X2 on running like crap with or without the spectre on. When I did my spectre kit my jeep started and idled just as it did before with the stock airbox. Could it be possible the spectre pre oiled filter got oil on the sensor in the throttle body?

That oil is not going to hurt it any.
