Arrow Budget Heat Shields

Hey everyone,

So, I've been researching on what to do about my heat issues now that I'm carpetless. My whole passenger side could fry eggs after idling up temp as it sits now, and I've found that there are no heat shields on my '98 for the exhaust. In my research I've stumbled upon the idea of using cookie sheets for shields. Has anyone here done this?

I'm not sure if riveting it to the floorboard is the best idea, and certainly would need spacers to allow some airflow. I'm on a mission to replace every bolt and screw with stainless steel hardware, so maybe that's a better option for my situation. I'm bedlining my interior and Dynamat and the like are not on my list as I want to attach the bedliner directly to the steel for maximum strength.

Anyone have any other ideas for cheap and effective heatshields?

Default Heat Shield

Piece of 16ga stainless, some slit holes and long stainless hose clamps, clamp it around the heat source. Check the clamps for tight once in a while, also make sure it's not rubbin your shaft. I put a couple stainless bolts thru some holes to let the shield stand off and allow an air gap. Floor above was hot, now cool. Been in place a couple years. Cutting the heat will also preserve your floor metal.

Been on a couple years, I check the bands during lube service, they stay tight and no rattle.

Nice! Looks easy enough. Any other hotspots in your Jeep? Carpetless/bedlined? I like the idea of attaching it directly to the muffler, and not to the floor pans. And, it fits my requirement of stainless steel everything (I live in the rust belt!)

So your floors aren't too hot to touch or radiate heat in the cab anymore?

Curios, anyone have heat issues on the driver side? Like where the T-case shifter is? Been trying to figure the cause and how to budget it cheaply and stop it.

Mine gets warm, but not near as hot as the passenger side. I've read that it can be caused by the heat rising from the exhaust (and possibly tranny), and since that is the highest point on the unibody underneath, the heat bunches up in there.
