I've been reading about SYE's and t-case drops and I learned that i have the worst possible setup:
98 xj with Auto trans, NP242 t-case, and C8.25. Now, I just ordered a 3" lift, and I want to know if anyone runs a 3" lift with this setup without changing any of the driveline angles. thanks

Haha.. Worst possible? No. The 242 has a viscous coupler instead of mechanical like a 231, but so what.. And the c8.25? Comparable to a d44! SYE's are, admittedly, more expensive for the 242, but a HnT (hack n tap) is a good alternative. But for 3"? Idk, chances are it won't be an issue. 3.5-4" seems to be more the cut off. Lots of people run taller that you with stock driveline setups without issue.

VT is right. My buddy has the exact same set up as you and has zero vibes. Even though the AW4 is longer and the 242 is a bigger case, you should be fine. If you aren't willing to do an sye (if you need one) then do a t case drop
I have a 99 with an auto and a 242 with the 8.25 rear and I have zero vibes. I do think that the u joint at the rear shaft needs to be replaced though. It is making some sounds while slowing down below 5 mph. More annoying than anything....I also need to check the pinion angle.....may be part of the issue
I have the same combo and I'm at 4" and stock driveline, the ujoint developed a slight vib intermittently, like when decelerating thru 50, but has held up quite well. It's definitely time to replace it as the vibes are pretty steady at speed... At 2" I was fine, no vibes at all.
