Spartan Locker on rear D35 - Daily Driver/Weekend Warrior
I've got a local guy selling a Spartan Locker for a Dana 35. He only wants 65 bones for it, and it's new in box.
Really tough to pass up a deal like that. I would have really preferred a spartan for my front D30, and I don't exactly know how I feel about driving around with a lunchbox locker in the rear of my daily driver XJ.
For what it's worth - I'm lifted about 5-6" on 33s. I daily drive my Jeep 90% of the time, I do intermediate wheeling/rock crawling but unfortunately the trips aren't as often as I'd like them to be at the moment.
My question is - would it be stupid of me to throw a locker into the rear D35 of my Jeep?
Side note - I know, Dana 35's suck. I'm not keeping it. It's what I have at the moment, though. Plans are in the works for future mid-width axle upgrades.

I know that Dana 35's always blow up on people because they're bouncing their axles and doing dumb **** on rocks - I'm (usually) very careful when I'm wheeling. Nonetheless that's why I'm apprehensive about buying it/installing it.

I guess I'm apprehensive to pick it up because part of me feels like after I install it, I'd be driving around on a ticking time bomb.

I might go pick it up, I'm still torn seeing as my Jeep is all I have for getting around and I don't have axles ready to sling under her just yet. We'll see haha. Thanks for the input though

I run a 35 currently with a LOKKA. Been wheeling it about years now. See Avatar Just don't get crazy and take it slow and it will be OK

If op is aware of the issues that could arise from doing "stupid things" I would think it'll be ok.
Besides, turning the steering wheel "full lock" and flooring it on rocks, or some other difficult situation in a vehicle w/ front and rear lockers maybe even just a rear (aka "stupid things") is a recipe for disaster no matter what axle you have.
Imo, of course.

Thanks for the input guys. 4.3L XJ, you've definitely eased my mind hearing your personal experience with a D35 locker haha.
I'll probably hit the seller up and pick it up soon. Thanks guys!

The Dana 30 & 35 are both 27 spline. I'm pretty sure they are interchangeable front to rear. For $65 I'd find out.

The spartan locker I'm looking at is PN#17007, M35 - 1.5 27 spl.

I am pretty sure the dana 30 and 35 lockers don't interchange, the part numbers are different, SL M35-1.5-27 [17007] for the Dana 35, and SL D30-27 [17000] for the Dana 30.

Pretty unfortunate that I can't throw it in my front D30. Oh well.
I feel like as long as I'm careful - which I tend to be - on road and off road I'd be fine driving a locked D35.
