It's better to have low comp and high boost then high comp and low boost. The turbo will always make more power, granted it's properly matched with your application.
Then why is every single diesel out there twice as much compression witha turbo

Wheeling with a turbo sounds fun.

I have no idea. I've never dealt with diesel or know much about diesel at all. But I have had many turbo engines and built quite a few good setups. With that said im not saying it doesbt work. Just saying youll have a more reliable and powerful engine with a tad lower compression and higher boost. There's a really good book called maximum boost I recommend to anyone who wants to go turbo. It will really help understand every aspect and how to build power without sacrificing reliability.

because diesel's are compression combustion in the first place, they have to have high compression, the turbo just adds more torque with less RPM's.

No such thing as cheap power, everyone can forget that idea.

You wanna play, you gotta pay. Don't forget a catch can, oil line, plumbing, gaskets, stand alone, wiring, injectors, fuel pump etc etc etc.

Again, +1 for 505.

+2 for 505
It's a reason it's $2g, they've done the research to get it done right
so waste 2k trying to get it right the cheap way, or pay 2k and get what you want with no headaches...hmmm

50 hp for $4,200 (supercharged) doesnt seem worth it.

75 hp for $2,100, (turbocharged) seems decent. (But I couldn't justify it on my $1900 truck)

50-75 hp for $1,300 $1,500 (stroked) sounds about right.

OR

5.3L motor swap for pennies on the pony.

The 4.0L came pretty snuff out of the box, there really isn't left to get out of it, without spending alot of dough. Its a truck, not a hot rod.

Not trying to sound rude, just saying.

You cannot compare a diesel engine to a gasoline engine. 2 completely different motors

I like the 5.3L swap, then you could stroke that out even more or throw on a supercharger later on and you would forget you even wanted a turbo. Nothing beats a supercharged v8.

I had an old roommate that tried to throw an eBay turbo on his 94 integra and the turbine blew after two weeks. I dont think he even got to really push it that hard before it started spewing white smoke all over. He didn't have the money to fix it so he just took it off and threw his $700 investment out the window. Better to spend 2500 and get it done right then over 3k to find out the hard way

Thought I'd jump in here with a question: Its my understanding that torque, not high rpm/horsepower is the ticket with these I6's?
Why not save the money for a V8 swap?
that would give the OP some real seat-of-the-pants attitude
