go for it, turbos are easy to use and fab. guys will tell you dont, but its easy power. theres a lot more you will need though. do tons of research. maybe contact english racing for advice. good luck

Sorry last reply was from my phone and ran out of space to type. Ok turboing any rig can be done but the money and time invested may render it kind of out of range. To do it right first off dont use an ebay turbo, they have a bad rep for bearing failure due to loose manufacturing tolerances. But if you get a turbo from a reputable source you good to go(expensive though). Dont go smaller than 57 trim or you'll overrun the turbo and make it useless. Fuel system upgrades are necessary, fuel pump aroung 190lph or bigger, bigger injectors, some type of tuner (ie afc, aem fic, ect), head studs and if your motor is high miles a good head job and gasket set. The I6 motor has tons of power potential with the right parts and enough time and money. Ive done a few turbo kits. The best part of your want for a turbo is you lose no bottom end power but if want to run high rpm's in the sand you can. I can point you in the right direction for parts and some pointers if you need it. Check these guys out www.englishracing.net they are proof you can turbo anything, and Aaron and Lucas are awsome guys to talk to.

thanks bud just been wanting one for a while now and been looking around for the best parts and all that jaz i love the sound of them also..... ive got a couple buddies that work in shops and do this kind of thing for a living and there saying go for it but just dont wana blow a motor or anything of that sort. i know that if i get the parts and get it all set up i can upgrade the part if needed( or if possible)

Yeah I got all the stuff to do one on my wifes jeep but not the time to do it, the manifold is all I need but can build it as needed. And at almost 600k on the motor its probly not a good idea at this point, so it'll happen with the new motor. Check out turbos.com, they got a huge selection or get an HX35 off a 99 or older cummins or better yet HX40 00 and up cummins. Cheao and obviously last forever

wide_cherokee97 02-05-2011 09:12 PM

i was actually wondering if a manifold of a cummins would fit my inline 6 but the thing is that where i live coming around a cummins that wrecks with the motor in good shape is VERY RARE

505 performance

wide_cherokee97 02-05-2011 09:24 PM

already looked at 505 but there just so darn expensive 2600 buck some may say its worth it but i think i can get a just as good one for alot cheaper

If you really plan on doing a turbo install on your rig (99% that say they're going to do it never do), you're going to have to spend the cash to do it right.

Now when you turbo a stock engine alil boost will blow your seals and use oil bad after awhile you need to build the engine in order to handle a turbo or supercharger without doing damage to the engine pluse more compression is better with a turbo and no a cummins manifold will not work on a 4.0 first the head is twice the size and is not a face to face match its a corner
Match meaning the manifolds corner goes into the head

Actually the lower the compression the better. With lower compression you can run higher boost safer. And the turbo will make more power than your compression. Could, so you have more room for higher power. The higher the comp the higher the temp of the combustion and the greater chance of detonation. It's better to have low comp and high boost then high comp and low boost. The turbo will always make more power, granted it's properly matched with your application.

wide_cherokee97 02-05-2011 11:23 PM

i plan on changing all my gaskets in the motor before putting the turbo on anyway

slk88cherokee 02-05-2011 11:46 PM

no the cummins mani wont work, but the turbo is a t4 flange so getting a mani made will be easy, and the hx turbo is oil cooled so no water lines to run for cooling.
