Fuel tank skid plate is the most important. Everything else is protected pretty well.

Skid plates are a hard one to say xyz is the best and all you need. It depends on the type of stuff you're going to get into, the aftermarket parts you add, and how much lift and such. Personally I have a factory gas tank skid from a grand Cherokee ZJ, rock sliders because rockers seem to thr the first thing to get bashed, and recently I got a taboo customs skid plate for my transmission pan. I've done a lot of wheeling over the past few years and the gas tank skid has been dented some, the rock sliders have been used and abused, and before the trans skid I hit the exhaust on a rock and pushed it into the pan a little so I got it just in case. Another big thing I realized I didn't mention, heavy duty diff covers. I've seen people dent, puncture, and peel off factory covers. I'm also a fan off lower control arm skids for the front axle. They make a good spot to jack up the vehicle, and they take some serious abuse. Again, all depends on how hard you plan to beat it and what kind of trails you get yourself into.

FYI, you should look up ZJ fuel tank / skid plate into XJ. Or some combination of words like that. Basically the ZJ fuel tank holds an extra 3 gallons over the XJ. Then you can modify the ZJ tank to gain an extra 2 gallons or so.
