Question Skid plate install

I just ordered a warn transfer case plate and I noticed that online it said I will have to drill through the "frame," after I drill what kind of things do you guys do to keep it from rusting. Do you just spray some primer in there or what?

I usually spray it with some paint or primer on the raw metal. Make sure you clean the metal so the paint sticks nicely.

Cool thanks, how are you supposed to bolt it on the frame rail? do I drill through both sides and put a nut on the back?

I slotted my frame and stuck a bolt in it and then tack welded it on there. I think some people use self tappers but personally I dont trust them. I know others cut a hole to stick a wrench in there but idk to me slotting/fishing the bolts in there and tacking them in is easiest IMO.

When I installed my Rusty's TC skid I had to drill into the frame for a pilot hole and then it came with self taping bolts to then go into the frame. A total of 3 on the frame rail and then 2 bolts through the cross member. So maybe it's the same idea?

Yea, took my about 30 min to put on my Rusty's. But, I do suggest a second set of hands or a floor jack because they aren't the smallest or lightest things and trying to lay under my rig, hold it up, and drill all by myself was a ***** to say the least.

When I installed my skid I used flange nuts. I drilled the holes large enough to insert the hex side into the sub frame and welded around the flange. Ground the weld even but not flush. Left about a 1/16th in. gap between the skid and frame. About the same gap as using a nutsert, but it won't spin in the hole.
