I'm considering the same thing. Buying a used doner axle and building it while I drive around on the original and swapping out once I have it complete and ready to go. Minimal down time and the ability to wait and look for deals on parts is a great luxury.

Got anti wrap perches and low profile shock mounts and welded them on with my 4° needed for my 4.5" lift and added the disc brakes off a 2003 Liberty Renegade. Got a total of $450 in it and I'm happy. Did the swap in an afternoon and got $200 for my stock axle. WIN!
