For 2" you would probably be ok using stock shocks. Or you could order a set of 3" shocks. Either way no BPE or pressing of bar pins.

get some 3" lift shocks. tons of info on them. i use 2" BDS TJ shocks in the front of mine. the rear has bar pin elims and you already said no on those which gets rid of the cheap options.

I used some new Jeep Wrangler Rubicon shocks. These things are perfectly valved for the XJ. You can find em on eBay for around $50-$60 sometimes. There are quiet a few write-ups on how to make them work, pretty simple stuff.
