Default Rusty Bolts..

Hi all.. I just bought a 96 Cherokee Short that never had it's factory shocks replace.. I plan to install coil over shock but the upper shock bolts are rusted.. Should I Drill and Tap to remove these bolts.. Thanks for your help.. Joey G..

lots of pb blaster, turn em out normally. if they still break, use and air hammer or chisel and sledge to knock out the broken bolt and welded nut. should leave you with a hole where the bolt used to go. take a new bolt and a wrench and reach through those two big triangle holes near the middle of the jeep to drop them through the holes you just knocked the old ones out of. Put the shock up there, put a nut on em, and you're done.

Just did this with my shocks when I put my lift in about a week ago...I used a lock washer and didnt have to hold the bolt...tighten pretty easily.

that's exactly what I just told him to do... lol. But a nice walkthrough with pics is always helpful.

Why do you want coil over shocks on a leaf spring rig? Just wondering.

lol, yeah, I have. 3 of mine broke, and out of the 7 xj's we've lifted here since mine (trendy I guess), not one of them had all 4 bolts come out.
