Default Running an engine that sat?

The engine in my xj might be toast. I know someone selling one for 250 only problem is it was sitting for6 years and it siezed. If I can get it to break loose can I run it in mine without rebuilding it?

Huge maybe there. I've put mystery oil in the cylinders and let it sit for a couple of days then put a big breaker bar on the crank. If you can't turn it then skip it but if you can get a pressure gauge and check the compression on the cylinders and see if it need rebuilding on the bottom end anyway.

Oh and 250 is way high for one that's locked up. That's running engine prices.

Can I do a compression test just by rotating the engine with a wrench?

I have but you'll need an extra set of hands. Make sure there is oil in the motor before you try turning it over and if you try the mystery oil trick make sure to turn it over several times to get the oil out before you try.

Make sure that **** ain't seized first... if you have difficulty turning it by hand LOAD the cylinders up with penetrating oil and try after letting it sit. Dropping the pan is a minimum. After 6 years that thing is going to need a prime...

You might be able to get a compression test by hand but it's gonna suck.
