Roof Rack Mod
Anyone know where I can get something like this? My stock rack isn't sturdy enough for both of my kayaks.
Thanks

I'm going out on a limb here, but that big white yakima sticker gives me an idea:

1. Go on craigslist
2. get a roof basket with the rail tie-ins
3. acquire lighter kayak
4. http://www.rackwarehouse.com/roof-racks.html
5. build your own
6. buy a truck and put your canoes in the bed
7. make the cherokee into a truck and put your canoes in the bed.

it would be cheap to go to a junkyard and grab a couple cross supports of cherokees or grand cherokees, I'm running 4 on mine, 2 stock triangle and 2 fin shaped off a grand. looks good.

A couple years ago I decided that I wanted a roof rack... started watching Craigslist for Thule and Yakima stuff, seemed to be more Thule available. Just started buying complete rack setups if they had stuff I wanted (load bars, bike carriers, fairings, etc.) and then I either ebayed or resold on Craigslist the stuff I didn't need (fit kits, etc.) Ended up with one complete setup for me, and one for my dad as well. I ended up buying him two new Rocky Mounts bike carriers and honestly I'd recommend those over the Thule ones.
For a Cherokee you'll need gutter mounts... now I'm haunting Craigslist again trying to find some 58" load bars for cheap so I can piece together another rack from my leftovers... unfortunately both my rack and the one I gave my dad use 50" load bars...
to see what fits your vehicle, check out either Thule or Yakima's web site, figure out the parts you need, then start looking on C'list or eflay to try to get 'em for less. Sorry, that's my best idea...
