Roll/Spray on bedliner... 1 More Question
I have read just about all of the Bed liner threads on here but havent seen much about the prep that is involved. Any one have a How To?
Also how would you guys go about removing the insulated pads that are glued to the floor board?

The main thing to do is make sure whatever you are bedlineing that it is clean, I used acetone to clean anything that is getting bed lined. Acetone will probally clean the pads to or you could use a wire wheel on a drill.

you said you have read all the bedliner threads but you obviously didn't if you are asking this question.
step one: rough it up with wire wheel or similar.
step two: clean up with acetone
difficult?

I used 40 grit sand paper to take it to bare metal then clean with acetone, coat of self etching primer then clean again with acetone and then spray or roll on liner

scuff the original paint with a red wool pad. until hazy. then clean with acetone the clean with denatured alcahol. then roll/spray. only take it to bare metal if theres rust. then, strip to metal, use etching primer, use base primer then scuff, then clean then roll/spray.

1: Clean area
2: I use an orbital palm sander (electric) with a 200 grit just to rough up area if the surface has no rust/still have good paint..if there is rust i get it to bare metal and then spray it with rustoleum anti-rust primer. For the padding, I use a heavy spatula and start scrapping.
3: use acetone to wipe area clean, great for padding residue.
4: apply bedliner using roller, brush or if you have spray.

I think you are all missing the point of his question. In later model XJs they put heat shielding stuff down (looks like thick tin foil with a gooey rubbery glue to stick it to the floor.) TBH I dunno what the best way to remove it would be. Acetone would certainly help get the adhesive off but there's alot of it. A high RPM drill and a stiff wire brush should work.

If you'd like to leave it..ya but like i said, get one of those heavy duty steel spatulas and try and scrap it off, it is a pain to do it but with patience you can take it off. You can use a heat gun too to kinda get it soft and start scrapping.
