Default rocker removal. help please?

I was planning on removing my rockers since i smashed the drivers side and just making 2x6 rockers and doing it like a boat side. Ive seen guys that stop before the front fender and some that cut the bottom of the fender too. I was just wondering what to do with that support piece behind the fender if your supposed to cut it out or smash it in any thoughts? Here is a link of what i plan to do but with 2x6.

If I were welding in 2x6 i would try and just cut out what you have to and try and weld the remaining portion of that support to the 2x6.

How about building a bracket/splash guard from the fender to the inner fender, weld it to the fender and bolt it to the inner. That way it servers two purposes, keeping mud and water out of the door jams and also supporting/stiffening the fender while still making it removable. This is assuming you no longer have the plastic inner fender BS

Do the person welding a favor and have them plug weld somw 1"x1/4" strap on top of the sill. This not only provides a decent solid surface to weld to it insures the 2x is really fastened well.

so the 1x1/4 just sandwiches the sheet metal so u dont have to weld the thin stuff to the slider?

didn't even think to do that. I am planning on the 2x6 in the very near future though. Not a bad idea either, could probably get away with thinner than 1/4 as well.

I welded mine to the inner door seal, as long as you keep the heat away from the sheet metal it should be fine. I added 2x2 square tubing to the top of my sliders that would rest in the space underneath the plastic trim pieces. I then removed the plastic trim pieces drilled a few holes and filled the rest of the rocker with expanding foam. This will help keep any moisture and water/mud out while providing extra strength and resistance to crushing.

I did this up to the expanding foam part. I drilled holes under the plastic treads and then plug welded to the 2x2 stock in there. Those welds along with a running weld on the top and along the bottom where the pinch seam is hammered over......it's solid.
