Default Replacing Dana 35...

Okay Folks, my dana 35 is going out(rear end).. it had 4.11 gears in it.
Eventually i would like to have 35" tires on it.
the front that i have is a dana 30(not sure on the ratio)
My question is what type of rear end should i replace the 35 with? gear ratio? where should this new rear end come out of? and if i could get an expected price for it, it would mean alot to me. i Do know how to replace gears but i freakin hate it. what i'm lookin at is just wanting to swap. plz help.

If your axles are stock, the d30 is the same ratio. Otherwise when you put it in 4x4 your truck would burst into flames. Seriously though, it wouldn't be good

either an older xj with a towing package. dana 44 with 4.10's rare but out there. or you can find a ford 8.8 out of an explorer some of them came with 4.10's also plus i think after 96 or 97 they came with disks too. they are both lucky jy finds. also the 8.8 is a 31 spline oposed to the 29 with the 44

sweet dude, i actually heard that the ford 8.8s are pretty decent rear ends, at least they are pretty comparable to the chrysler 8.25s.
any good references on ford rear end ID? (as far as ratios)

they are WELL beyond the 8.25 in terms of strength.

and heres a list on how to identify the 8.8 gear ratios

I found one for $350 locally.. Is that a good price? It has disc brakes and it has the proper ratio..

it really depends on the area, that could be the going rate around there.

if that is the best price you can find, id say go for it

keep in mind though that with the 8.8 you will need the adaptor flange, new leaf spring and shock mounts. and you will need to cut off all the existing mounts on the 8.8 and weld your new mounts in place

Yikes!I paid 75.00 for a 8.25 from a 97 which is 29 spline earlier than that is gonna be a 27.I traded that axle ans some cash for some lift parts and then bought another 8.25 29 spline with Superior cromoly shafts,Aussie locker and raised shock mounts for 400.00!The Pull Apart here sales em for 100.00.Gues it depends on your area I would shop some more.I did see you said it had disc brakes but still......

its more than just a brake upgrade, its a much strong axle than anything that came in an XJ.

and different locations can mean drastically different prices. like i bought my 8.8 for 70 off of craigslist.
