Hey guys, I知 a new owner of a 1990 Renix Cherokee. I知 trying to convert to open cooling system. My only question is when I delete this heater control valve is my cab going to be hot all the time? I live in Florida and definitely need cold air conditioning for the summertime pretty much all year around. Is this going to change anything?
No, deleting the heater control valve won't make your cab hot. The valve only controls the flow of hot coolant to the heater core. Your A/C system is completely separate and will still blow cold. You'll just lose the ability to shut off hot coolant to the heater core, so your heater might blow slightly warm air even with the temp slider on cold. For Florida, that's a non-issue. Just bypass and delete the valve.

Do you need to use the heater at all there in FL?Originally Posted by Renix4Lyfe

I haven't had a Renix era XJ in a long time but I would not be surprised if a heater control valve from a H.O. era XJ could be plumbed in.
The original one in my '95 lasted 20 years before it started to disintegrate. I'm getting 2 to 3 years out of the aftermarket replacements before they start leaking.

If the heat control is set to off, then air should not flow thru the heater core into the cabin, and thus it should not heat up the cabin.Originally Posted by Renix4Lyfe

I upgraded my 1990 to the newer style radiator, overflow tanks and such, but I kept the heater valve.
