those two studs are joined together by a steel plate. The nut is 18, or 19mm, but tight and yours looks rusty.
Buy or borrow the correct ring spanner if you dont own it. Attempting to use incorrect tools in situation like that is stupid, if they slip, your hand can be injured
both 18 and 19mm ring spanners are needed many locations on your Jeep
Engine: 4.0, new lifters valve job with new springs and exhaust valves, preload set with shims
Had that off my xj twice. Nothing special about it, just another that takes patience and perseverance. PB blaster is your friend here and perhaps some heat from a propane torch, and 6 point socket 1/2" drive
Thank you for all the replies. I know the difference between nut and bolt, I was just extremely frustrated and not thinking straight when I posted the question. I mean I was really about to lose my mind over this lol.
The bleepin jeep videos I watched made it seem as if removing those springs was required. I found other vids last night that showed it could be done with a regular wrench. My issue was I had everything under the sun but an 18mm box end. I had an 18mm box end flex head ratcheting wrench, but it was taking a lot of torque and didn't want to break it as I don't think it was built to have breaker bar style torque on it.
To everyone who said patience... You are the winners! This bolt was like a pickle jar someone couldn't open with all their might and tries, then hands it over to someone else and comes off without any effort at all...
Meaning all the attempts where I thought I wasn't getting anywhere with that bolt, I was getting it closer and closer, because the last time I tried it, it came off as if it was never stuck at all. Now putting it in (with the new bracket) was another situation where I about went bonkers. That flex head 18mm was just thick enough around the head to not fit on top of the nut with that new bracket (due to springs). So I called 4 auto stores and 3 hardware stores. Only 1 out of all of them had an 18mm sold individually. While EVERYONE of those stores stocked them, all but one was completely sold out!
I really want to thank everyone on here for being kind to this newb. I did two years of auto shop in high school but that was mainly brakes and engines... I never did anything steering or suspension related. Whenever I got stuck, I was able to come on here and get the help I needed to finish my jobs. This really is a great site with a great community.
I already need to buy a few bleepin jeep shirts, where are the cherokeeforum shirts at?
If you don't know the double wrench trick for more leverage look it up.
I've had bad luck with that one.... My poor knuckles. I'd rather hold off and find a tool that fits and turns properly... Chances are I'll need it again later down the road.
But that was going to be my last resort...
Actually removing the springs was going to be my last resort lol.

gloves are mandatory when wrestling with front end
did complete suspension swap on 2 XJ, got one tiny pinch on my index finger..but my hands felt like they had been thru the ringer for a while, arthritis is a b!tch
I did mine with a short socket and an extension with a wobbly tip. Used my electric impact and called it a day.
pretty sure i just reached thru the spring with a long extension bar, maybe different flex allows coil strand to move out of way enough..maybe I used the 18mm spanner.
I have found a wide range of tools is needed to work on Jeeps, due to Imperial, Metric & Torx mix, different offset spanners
years ago, I went to an Industrial plant closing down auction, and bought many boxes of quality (used) tools cheap
best score, innocuous steel box, full of tungsten/carbide drill bits..20yrs later still got some, probably $2k worth, cost me about $5
