What's up CF I have not been on since 10/27/12 and believe me I have missed the forums. Things have happened since then and I haven't been able to work on my Jeep or join in forums. I haven't even been able to really enjoy or drive my Jeep since I bought it actually. The reason is having to battle in court to keep the Jeep I bought that turned out to be a scam, but in the end I got to keep it and register it in my name. Since then my father has passed away and he helped me fight for the Jeep so I want to keep it and pass it along to my kids someday. The other reason is, I have moved around and my Jeep has been sitting at my cousins house for a year. Anyway I have had overheating problems with this Jeep and have been thinking of just replacing the whole engine over time. I wanted to know what your opinions are on remanufactured engines and who you think is the best supplier. I have had my eyes on the "power improved" or "high performance" engines from Titan. I do not want a stroker just a little more power if I'm going to replace the engine might as well put a better one in. Before I do this I will have a compression/leak down test to see how the engine is now. The engine has power and good oil pressure but it starts to overheat while on the road. At idle and slow moving there is no overheating. I think the hose under the coolant bottle collapses when I drive faster. Sorry for the long post and thanks in advance for your input.

For the price of a reman engine you could swap something way more powerful than a 4.0
If it were me though I'd just rebuild yours..or find one from a part out.
If you keep oil in them and do regular maintenance a 4.0 wont have any issues up to 350k+

There are a few different stroker motors Ive heard about- Titian, ATK, Mopar (which is supposedly an ATK). I am personally going to buy a Golen as they have the best reviews and a great warranty. I'm sure you could one cheaper if you take it to a local shop or attempt to do it yourself but I would rather pay a little extra and get one with good reviews and a warranty. For me the stroker is a more viable option than any other motor just for the ease. I already have plenty of spare parts and all you really need to upgrade to a stroker is a larger TB, larger injectors, and a slightly higher air intake.
As for stock 4.0s, ask around town and see what shops have a good reputation. I see the remans go for 1100-2000 online which isn't too bad. I would just shop around and see who has the best warranty and welcome back!

Like what? You didn't supply any info one where to get it or who has them.
I would also like to rebuild it and have it as an extra engine, while that is happening I still want to drive it, so a remanufactured one will do but I want to know where is the best place and prices.
I know the 4.0's history and always maintain my rides.

Now we're getting somewhere.
I don't want a stroker just a modified 4.0 like the ones Titan have.
I also found a company called Promar and they have a 3 year unlimited mile warranty. No upfront core charge and free shipping both ways, not to mention no tax.

lol, yeah there are a lot of 'watchers' on these forums...
hey bro sorry to hear of your loss, my condolences... And sounds like some squirly stuff happening with your xj....
I admire that you'd want to keep the rig I know I would considering what you've been through, I would advise against replacing the motor and just fixing the problem you're having now so you can get it back on the road and driving it again.. maybe something as simple as a bad tstat, you never mentioned anything about diagnosis..
this may just turn into a 'project' that sits around unfinished for years........(if you don't fix the problem) fix it, drive it, then see if you want to build it

Thank you, its been basically sitting since I bought it.
The entire cooling system has been replaced; radiator, tstat, tstat housing, water pump, hoses, reservoir, hcv.
I think the hesco water pump is sucking to much and causing the hose under the reservoir to collapse.
I still would just like to restore it and put in a new engine since the one in it has overheated on me twice really bad and who knows how the PO treated it.

I had a buddy whos XJ would not stop overheating. He replaced almost everything... Turns out the PO had used that quick seal radiator stuff (the tablets you drop in) and all of his coolant ports throughout the block were clogged full of it. I don't know if there is a way to clean that out or not... he just got a new motor. As for Promar- I can't find anything about them. I guess no news is better than bad news right?

Well they are BBB accredited and have an A+ rating and other reviews are better than titans, but just because some people had problems with titan doesn't mean everyone does.
Anyone have any other manufacturers to recommend?

Promar sounded good but really a warranty is next to worthless on any out of area purchase. Find a local machine shop/builder and work with them.
But I would chase down your cooling issue before doing an engine swap.

Before you decide to throw $1k+ down the hole, let's try and figure out your overheating problem.
when you say overheating, how hot is it running?
do you have a fan shroud?
does your electric fan work?
what's the coolant look like? brown and nasty?
I'd try a coolant flush and thermostat first.
