A stock 295hp 5.3 in an XJ doesn't sound very lame to me.. add a cam and tune to that 5.3 for another easy 40+ hp and that would easily justify the price over just a remanufactured 4.0.... after all you said you wanted more power!

I intend to do that. As for the warranty, I know what you are taking about and the issues that go with that, but I was probably not going to return the core. Other thing is no tax sounds good to me.
Having a valid warranty doesn't sound bad either, I can just pay the core price after if I keep the engine since they don't charge a core upfront.

Before you decide to throw $1k+ down the hole, let's try and figure out your overheating problem.
when you say overheating, how hot is it running?
do you have a fan shroud?
does your electric fan work?
what's the coolant look like? brown and nasty?
I'd try a coolant flush and thermostat first.

The entire cooling system is new, yes I have the shroud and efan is working.
It gets up there as far as temp. I red zoned it twice, I think its the hose under the coolant jug, I have the aluminum one from Mac's radiators though.
With the hesco hiflow water pump, I think it causes the hose to collapse once I get passed 45mph.

Let me clarify the post then.
I want a more powerful 4.0 than stock but not a stroker or other engine.

What's up CF I have not been on since 10/27/12 and believe me I have missed the forums. Things have happened since then and I haven't been able to work on my Jeep or join in forums. I haven't even been able to really enjoy or drive my Jeep since I bought it actually. The reason is having to battle in court to keep the Jeep I bought that turned out to be a scam, but in the end I got to keep it and register it in my name. Since then my father has passed away and he helped me fight for the Jeep so I want to keep it and pass it along to my kids someday. The other reason is, I have moved around and my Jeep has been sitting at my cousins house for a year. Anyway I have had overheating problems with this Jeep and have been thinking of just replacing the whole engine over time. I wanted to know what your opinions are on remanufactured engines and who you think is the best supplier. I have had my eyes on the "power improved" or "high performance" engines from Titan. I do not want a stroker just a little more power if I'm going to replace the engine might as well put a better one in. Before I do this I will have a compression/leak down test to see how the engine is now. The engine has power and good oil pressure but it starts to overheat while on the road. At idle and slow moving there is no overheating. I think the hose under the coolant bottle collapses when I drive faster. Sorry for the long post and thanks in advance for your input.

The radiator hoses should have a spring inside to stop them from collapsing like you said. So check your new house maybe it doesn't have one? And I'm on the app so I don't know what year your Jeep is but in my 01 the pump pulls from the radiator on the drivers side below the radiator fill cap so make sure your intake to the pumps has a spring. Good luck

I know about the springs, you cant find stock replacements with springs.
I just bought aftermarket hoses with springs in them for the top and bottom hoses, so they are not collapsing.
