Reinforced stock bumper??
I wanna know if this has been done. I'd like to keep my stock bumper, but it's so weak. I bent my back one to ****. I'd like new and reinforced ones.

i think you'd have to pretty much build a custom bumper and skin it with your stock one
Detours Offroad makes a cool kit, but i think he is on a backorder stall right now for the rear...

I used 1.5" angle iron across the top and bottom with a few uprights welded and bolted together. Ran them on my '88 for 9 years. they held up to hard offroad abuse and the highlift wouldnt flex them at all. My front is still in use on my '99, but I've added a winch mount to it.
There's good pics of it here:

I still have the rear, but it's leaning against the wall. I built a rear bumper to replace it.

attached are detailed pics of the rear. I welded on 4" sections from another bumper and capped the ends.

Damn I really like the reinforcing idea, I never thought of that. I've got a brush guard that came stock and I was wondering how I could re use it. Problem solved haha

awesome, thanks, I think I'll just do that then, reinforce the inside of the bumper. maybe get the detours kit, that bumper/winch combo with the lights, is frikin' HOT.

Loving that Detours kit. Think I'm going to try and fab something similar front and rear but much more simple. Maybe just do the 2x4 bumpers with d rings and slip a stock bumper skin over everything. Will post pics if I do build em.
