Default Quick or long tire question 9.00r16s

So I'm realy curious if anyone has any experience with a set of Michellan 9.00r16XMLs they are basically a 36x9.50/16 mt built for the military.
I came across a set of 4 for 500 brand new they weigh in at around 80lbs each

I don't want to get into the hole axle strength debate I've had 11 jeeps 2 rover over the years I'm well aware of driveline limitations

I currently run a 255x85r16 maxis bighorn and for the most part I like a taller skinner tire on a cherokee or landrover.

What are your thoughts on Mil. Tires and if they would be an interesting alternative for a cherokee.

I think they suck man. They are supper heavy and the tread patterns they come in are not really advantageous to any situation. I can tell you from from my time in the Army that almost all civilian tires will grip better as the military tires are as hard as a rock and contain no siping of any kind. I dont know which exact tire the XML is but they all kinda suck.

They are tough though! And that is a amazing price for some big tires. I have not and would not run them on my XJ.

I forgot to mention that the sidewalls are so stiff that airing them down wont really do anything on something like an XJ... It barely does on a heavily up-armored Humvee haha. They always seemed squirly at highs speeds and the tread wear can be deceptive.... some of them sit for YEARS only getting like 100 miles a year. They also get retreaded quite a few times so your actual tire could be ooooold. (I assume you found them on EBAY/some military seller)

That's what I was thinking, I know when I was over in Africa doing security that the Rovers ran a crazy skinny tire that was around 35-36 inches they told me that it Was a British tire it had a funky zigzag pattern they would run it almost flat and it rode like ****.

These are the same tread patter as what's on the Striker and some of the 5 tons I've driven.
I'm not military btw just have a complicated job, that takes me to some interesting places.

I'm trying to hunt down a 35x10r16 or equilivant. Everything out in the states in that size is a 12.50 and I don't need the width nor do I want it.
I know super swamper has a 34x9.5/16 and a 35/10.5/16 but both are bi-ply
Any sugjestions on a tall skinny tire

Super Swamper also has the LTB which comes in 34x10.5...

Other than that man.. not much that I know of. I thought maxxis made a bigger narrow one but I couldn't locate it on their site.

Think about it though man, is an inch on either side of the tire really a big deal? I personally like a little width. 315x75R16 is what I run and they don't look that wide to me!

Super Swamper Q78. Tall, narrow, bad ***. Some versions measure out to be about a 36"x9.5"

There's a few threads on sites like pirate and ih8mud about em. They've been around forever.

Ya I've had basically every type of swamper I loved the Ltb I ran a 34x10.5 and the traxxis MT was a great tire, for a long time on my o4 rubicon.
My jeep does double duity now, like most of use here it's a DD and weekend wrench fest hahaa

I just wanted to get the feelers out there to see if there's any new offerings, then I found the military tires and it sparked my interest.
