I am in the middle of a RE 5.5" lift and we ran into a problem on the rear leaf springs. WE were able to loosen the forward spring bolt (under the rear seat). However, we couldn't get the bolt out of the bushing and need up cutting the bolt to get the leaf spring free. The rear leaf spring bolt came out rather easily. My question here is, are the two leaf spring bolts the same size? If so, I can take the rear bolt and ensure that the captured nut on the forward bushing is still in good condition or not. I can also use the old bolt to identify and purchase new bolts as well. Thanks in advance.

 

If I remember correctly, same size, just different lengths

 

I saw on Rock Auto that they have shackle bolts that are 9/16" X 4.5". The information says they are for the front and rear. Wonder if this is what I am looking for...

 

I think mine were metric....M14 x 2.0 x 120

9/16 will work, but only if you replace the nut inside the frame

 

nice, I think I will buy one of each to see which one works. Once I know, I can replace them all.

 

I went to a local nut bolt place and got them pretty cheap

Also got a matching tap to make sure the nuts in the frame were clean

 

The bolts are metric. Grade 10.9 is specified.

 

Looks like the front and rear leaf spring bolts along with the rear shackle bolts are all the same. Hopefully, that will make it easy to get some replacement bolts.

 

The front and rear bolts are the same. Not sure on the size, think they were metric. I had to cut both of my front bolts when I did my lift as they were froze up in the bushing sleeve. I also had one of the front nuts come loose ( inside the frame) Ended up using a cutoff wheel and sawing a square hole in the frame to get the bolt/nut out. Used a new locknut and then just hammered the flap on the hole back up and welded it.

 

Yea, looks like the front, rear, and shackle hater bolts are all the same. Luckily, at least the one front bolt I cut out had the font nut still in place so it should be much easier to replace with a new bolt. Thanks for the confirmation on the bolts.

Go to the hardware store or local bolt and fastener store and tell them you want,
4 of M14 x 2.0 pitch x 120mm long, class 10.9, flange head, nipple tip and nuts

 

Whew.........that's a mouthful.........I just handed him an old one and said I need 6 of these.
