I did mine ('96 XJ) recently and used the std sealed beams until my Sylvania SilverStars came in. I noticed some improvement in the low beams but a real improvement in the highs. I use to be able to run highs into on going traffic with no problems. But when I installed the SS's is when the BIG difference came.

The kit says to install fuses between the harness and the battery, but includes no fuse holders. As soon as I get some more free time I will be splicing in some fuses.

Over all this was an easy install and the change in light output is unbelievable.
What size inline fuse would you use between the harness and battery? Im thinking (2) 30's on each line? maybe

Yes, but what rated fuse do/did you use? 30 amp? 20 amp? Etc. Great writeup, I hope to be able to do this install (sans fuses) with an H4 upgrade tomorrow.

Nice write-up. Please make a note to install the relays with their pins/plugs facing DOWN so they don't get moisture in them.

One optional upgrade I did was to run an additional 18 gauge ground wire from each ground screw used at each lamp back to the battery. I used the body ground post where the negative cable attaches to the body as the return point.

I did this based on may posts that indicated that not having a good ground caused issues. This way I have a dedicated ground path back to the battery not relying on the body.

First off, very clean install. When I did mine I left the loom just hanging there so there's a big ole yellow U in between each head light.
When installed mine I added some 15 amp fuses. It's been fine so far. Now once I have spare money I plan on getting autopal housings and some hella 60/55w bulbs because I've heard the 100/80w bulbs burn out in half a year..
