This should work for yours as well. I believe the wiring is the same as my 98.
Just check the wires with a test light and look at your wiring diagram. You will also need to remove the lock plate if you don't want to use the key.

i dont have a test light handy as im temporarily living in california for the marine corps. but im having the same broken tumbler problem you are and everything has worked and it starts with the push button but i cannot kill my motor, is this due to the fact i dont have the ACC wire hooked to the on off switch? cus im not sure which wire it is either. if you figure it out could you please let me know. thanks!
also not sure which push button you bought but if you get the sliver dorman brand one and you take your cig lighter heater out and then drill out the bottom of the metal sleeve that is mounted into your dash the push button will fit in there perfectly and noone will notice it. my wife thought i was magic when i started my rig haha

Blue wire is kill wire. And I finally figured out that the black wire, white stripe is what finally got all of mine working. Thanks for the starting point 98XJ40K

I installed a pushbutton on my wifes xj. It has a dead wire somewhere, and after 3 days of chasing wiring I said F it and installed a pushbutton. I ran a 4ga wire from the battery into the jeep, thru the pushbutton, and then into the underhood fuse block. I pulled the "starter relay", and figured out which terminal actually sent power to the solenoid. I put a male spade terminal on the wire and plugged it in. The starter will function without the key in the switch, but the jeep wont crank and run unless the key is in the "on" position.

Ok, I lied black wire with white stripe is not acc power. Like an idiot I tested it and it gets power with acc on, and loses it when shut off. And it turned the radio on, so I thought it was it. Like an idiot. Which is fine for my application, that's really all I wanted. But it does not send power to rear wiper or blower fan. Please excuse my stupidity and I hope I didn't screw anyone up...
