Default problem installing rear lift

bought a rough country 4.5" lift for my 99 xj. got the front end and t-case drop finished, while taking off the rear shocks the bolt head stripped off. whats the best thing i should do? heat it with a blow torch? one of those threaded stripping kits from the auto parts store? drill it out? what should i do?

If its the upper bolt you can punch the welded on nut out and run a bolt through the top.

Glad you supplied that link, never seen it before. I only did this to the 1 bolt that broke off, perhaps tomorrow Il get back under there and do the other 3 for preventative maintenance.

I highly recommend just using a little baling wire (I am jokin', don't do that)

punch it out and fish a bolt up there

When it happened to me, my dad suggested a left hand bit. He said sometimes it catches it and spins it out. It worked! On one. The other broken one just got drilled out and then the threads were chased.

Next time I'll just weld in BPEs. Lol

Good luck.

If you're not running a rear sway bar you can use the mounts that connect it to the rear leafs and weld those up top for a set of cheap homemade Bar Pin Eliminators. Its what im gonna be doing to mine next weekend.

^ You can either weld the mounts in or punch those nuts out, fish bolts through, and bolt those homemade BPE's up. Just press the bar pin out and stick a bolt through the mount and the shocks to hold it in place. Also extends the shocks apx. 1in.

If you completely drill out out that hole will be a lot larger, make sure to use a washer on the bolt you stick through. If you want to completely remove the nut to drop a bolt through, its easier to use a air chisel or a big hammer and a chisel, or something like that, to pop it out,
