86-91 had a button to adjust the shift points for the tranny. After 91 all xjs are set in the "power" setting.

All it does it gives you a firmer shift and shift higher in the rpm and maybe use a little more gas in power. In comfort the shift is smooth. After I think 91 they got rid of it and left it the power option.

It basically just added an electric shift kit to the earlier models that you could turn on and off. It moves the shift points higher so when doing things like towing, you would stay in the powerband while accellerating longer.

Put it in Power mode. Does the light in the switch illuminate?

It doesnt really do anything except adjust your shift points. Its pretty useless. Ive noticed I get better mpg with it in power mode and a lot better acceleration.

I have it in my jeep too, isn't it supposed to turn off the torque converter or something like that??

In comfort mode it locks up the torque convertor at a lower speed wearing out the clutches faster I think. In power mode its a lot firmer and lets it peak a lil higher before locking up. All the newer xjs are hardwired for power mode. Like I said Id just leave it in power mode and forget about it.

Excellent advice^^.

Also be aware that if the 7.5 amp "trans" fuse in your fusebox is blown you are stuck in Comfort mode as that fuse feeds the power to the Power/Comfort switch. The switches have to light up in Power mode or there's a good likelihood the fuse is blown and the switch shorted. There is a simple bypass to remedy the problem and eliminating the faulty switch.

Hi i'm Alessandro from Italy, i've a problem with my automatic shifting, it shift like if my power button is ever on, but i like more the comfort shifting because my engine is tuned to do the best in torque at low rpm, so if the shifting is faster my car gain speed easly...
Do you know what can i check to activate agane the comfort mode?

Regards.

Unplug the harness from the back of the Power/Comfort switch.
