Default Powder Coating Stock Rims

I'm considering powder coating a set of the ORM XJ rims, has anyone done this and do you have any pics?

What color do you want to do?
If you're thinking silver or another color, powder coat would be sweet. Most places around here (east texas) charge ~$50 per wheel.
If you're thinking black, a rattle can job would be easy and cheap if this is for a trail rig.

I think that would look really nice. Keep in mind, powder coat pretty tough, but if you do need to touch it up its either paint or re coat it. Unless they have something new that has come out in the last few years.

If you plan on keeping your XJ completely stock with no upgrades period like tires, lift, etc. then powder coat a very good idea and will look good a long time if not off road much.

If not planning on keeping stock tire size new steel wheels don't cost much more than the powder coat and they have it done already. Summit or Jegs both have wheels at excellent prices with free shipping and will price match as well. I bought a new Cragar Soft Eight from Summit for my spare and a full set for my son from Jegs best prices anywhere.

JMHO but an idea to consider if you have future plans.

Duplicolor wheel paint is cheap I did a set of 17 ' on my boosted svt focus for under $20. And touch up was in a can.

Stock but not stock..is the plan, this is a link to the build. https://www.cherokeeforum.com/f46/19...-build-196997/

On my YJ I had a set of aftermarket rims for like 15 years and when I just recently did a build I had them powder coated black and they turned out alright. I just like the look of either the TJ Rubicon rims or the 5 spoke stock cherokee rims.

here is the YJ

and the Cherokee I just started a build on..this is the day it arrived. See I like to 5 spoke look better than these rims

I used metallic spray paints, then a clear coat, Krylon Clear spray can.
Scuffed wheels with 180 and 220 grit emery cloth (don't bother with paper 'garnet' sandpaper). Light coat of primer.

I am sure powdercoating would work good on alloy wheels. On steel I do not get great results due to the very corrosive environment I live in. The steel seems to form a thin rust layer underneath the powdercoat, then the coating peels off.
What about powder coating the lug-nut contact area? The nuts could cause chips or cracking.
