OK, I'll resume the search, once I've found a solution to DHS's latest obstacle to stop people visiting the US.

I have done a little research

I am on another vehicle forum, and questions arose about poly vs rubber bushes, who should chime in, but a suspension engineer, so he has given me some guidance

I saw my mate with the lathe, who has driven and maintained a fleet of heavy vehicles & 4wd for over 50yrs

He confirmed it is totally commonplace to have the poly prematurely chewed by the inner metal sleeve

Said I could use his lathe to turn down some poly tube and make a few sets, thought it was a good idea

I have used poly bushings in vehicles for decades with excellent results.

I'm about to get poly leaf spring and shackle bushings installed on the Kenworth T370 that I drive.

In about 150K it has gone through the original factory bushings once and a replacement set once.

We'll see how this works.
