Performance head and camshaft
Hey guys,
Recently I have lifted my 98 XJ 3" and got myself 31" bf ko2s with new diff gear ratios. Now I want to get some performance parts for my engine. I have 2000$ to spend on my Jeep, what should I get? I'm thinking Edelbrock performer cylinder head with valvetrain and a good camshaft but I don't know any quality brands for cams. Junk yard builds locally for 650$, they use Chevy springs and valves with porting the head. Which route should I go? Any better ideas? I use my car for hill climbing (dunes).
Parts installed now:
- Last gen Jeep intake
- Custom exhaust manifold
- Straight pipe 3"
- Heavy duty driveshaft
- GCC spec LSD or locked diff (both tires spin no matter where you are)
Parts considering to get with this:
- 05 Mustang injectors
- BBK or Painless throttle 68mm

The head alone will take care of the whole budget, before port work. Then you should have a stroker short block to go with it.
You can put lipstick on a pig but its still a pig. You need to rethink the build more before you spend any more money.

Way better investment. That's if you're serious though.

You could pick up a built head from Russ Pottenger and one of his custom cams. You could always throw them on a stroker short block later on down the road.
To do all this, you should of course be looking into getting it tuned from one of the few that can tune the Jtec ecus.

FWIW, there are a bunch of peeps making well over 300hp out of their 4.7 strokers.

I was told that this complete engine that I bought is the HD block casting numbers either by CCKen or Cruiser54 and is a 1999 yr model 4.0. I can't remember what showed that now.

You're gonna spenk 6k+ getting it there safely, when you can save a grand and drop an LS in that will make way more horsepower with a lot more potential for upgrades. Trust me when I started building my jeep I was all about keeping the i6 and stroking it, research lead me to the best option if I want the power I want..... LS swap

You must never have owned an LT1 lol. The optispark (distributor) is just below the waterpump.... Must I say more? A remedy is an electric waterpump. But that doesn't take away from the fact that the optispark is garbage. Previous owner of a 94 Firebird Formula. Boy was that a fun car though! Skip-shift was kind of a weird thing to put in a 6spd car. First time I felt that I was like WTF!!! For those of you who arent familiar with skip-shift, it was a feature that would block gears so you would get better fuel economy. Well, that was the idea anyway...
