Have you researched bio diesel Marty? My former neighbor had a bio diesel co-op, he and his partners noticed dramatic gains in fuel economy running basically processed used fry oil. It's because of him I initially became interested in the project.

$.65 a gallon and it performs better than fossil fuel, what can be better than that?

Biodiesel is cheap but it has its down side like the size and price of the plant to make it.I would run a grease car kit because im lazy and its cheaper. But even the grease car kit has its downside like its a 2nd fuel system that takes up space in your car.

Biodiesel should not be boosting anybody's fuel economy unless you have a go-fast problem. The base oils have a lower caloric density than petroleum diesel. Cost per mile of course is another story...

Stuff looks super simple to make. Seems like peanut oil is summer-only lol. Way easier to burn than pissing around with greasecar kits. The big advantage I see is I can burn B100 in the home furnace, the VW TDI (ALH engine), my Duramax, future tractor, and future OM617 swap where seals and lines are upgraded as necessary. Plus much easier to work with in the winter. B50 or higher depending on what sort of **** I can jury rig to keep it from gelling (fuel filter heater looks nice)

Biodiesel has problems of its own. The main thing is biodiesel does have a tendency of bacteria growth and water in the fuel. Nothing that can't be fixed with a bit of additive. Might I suggest Power Service Kleen Diesel. Also a good additive will keep the fuel from gelling in the wintertime

I'll have to ask the dude I know about that, he uses Lye and Methanol.

Everyone I know who runs bio loves it

Power Service's products are fantastic but there no effective additives against gelling in B100. Ive not heard of bacteria being an issue but algae growth is an issues with petro diesel. How much water is in the fuel is entirely up to the person who manufactures it.

Yeah Gary the lye & methanol process is the way to go.

Will the several thousand dollars it takes to put a diesel in your XJ be more or less than the gas you'll save with it? How many years of gas savings will it take to make up for the initial investment?

...and just where exactly will you find enough used vegetable oil to recycle? A busy restaurant may dump just a gallon or two a day max, if that. They recycle it too.

Will you go from restaurant to restaurant each day asking for their used veg oil?

These kinds of things sound great on paper, but...

Very good points that need to be considered if finances are your primary motivator, but yet somehow it is done succesfully by thousands of people... Must just be an Internet fantasy!

(Those who are serious set up a deal with several restaurants to collect used oil on a regular basis.)

I think it's a pretty big deal in some jurisdictions. I keep hearing about this being an issue in the UK.

I'm sure you all remember a few years ago the Tax Incentives offer for buying Fuel efficient and supposedly Eco friendly hybrids????? Turns out this has totally back fired to some degree.

A family friend lives in Seattle and works for the state legislative dept, they have lost so much revenue in the form of gas taxes from Hybrid and Electric cars that they are short funds to maintain the roads. It's actually been proposed that said car owners should be taxed yearly because they are not "paying their share" in fuel taxes.

That wouldn't that be something, higher taxes and registration fees to "go green"

In most States it isn't illegal to make your own "fuel". Just illegal to sell it
