Default oil pressure problems

As soon as I start up my 1990 Cherokee Laredo the oil pressure gauge just climbs up to 80 which is the highest it goes. also when I press on the throttle it waits a second to go. does anyone know what could be causing those problems?

you could hook up a mechanical gauge to see what your real oil pressure is. They are usually free to rent at your local auto zone or whatever.
