Default Offset Pedals for more room?

Hey all,

I've never owned a jeep before and was looking at a 1991 cherokee today just for fun. Wow! The pedals are so close together I can't see how someone with a shoe size greater than five can step on the pedals without hitting the ones next to it at same time! This is on a manual. I could only get my foot on the gas by just barely putting the tip of my shoe on the pedal and holding my heel way back, totally unrealistic. This was wearing my dress shoes for work, it would be completely impossible if I was wearing boots. Do they make some kind of offset pedals to help this out?

My 'Manchee was a stick & I had no problem with the pedals. Yes, my shoe size is larger than a 5.

If you want to see some close pedals, go test drive a Mazda5. I mash the gas & brake & the same time in my wife's car. Try to take my foot off the gas & my foot gets hung up under the brake pedal.

Kind of scary.

I have not heard of any offset kit.

I wear size 12's you get used to it. I'm unaware of any offset pedal kits, on my 5spd zj the/a previous owner modified the pedals by removing the rubber covers and trimming down the pedals, it sucked to drive with wet shoes and was quite the stupid idea, but just throwing it out there if you're desperate.

Size 12s here with no issues. How do you have the seat adjusted?

My brother wears a size 16 and had no problem driving my 5-speed MJ. I think it's just you.

You get used to how close the pedals are. I wear 11's, and at first I had issues with how close they were when wearing boots, but after a day or two I got used to it. Doesn't bother me at all anymore.

Thanks for the replies. The seat was adjusted all the way back so that I could fit. I'm 6'1" and wear size 13 shoe and 14 boot. My shoe could not physically fit without running into the brake pedal on one side and tranny tunnel on the other. The only way I could step on the gas was to bring back my heel until just the tip of my shoe was on the center of the pedal. I may just have to give up on the cherokee idea, my head was just about dragging on the roof anyway. When I'm in full cold weather gear and carrying a rifle, I would have to be vacuum packed to fit in this thing. That and I couldn't bring any adults with me if they wanted to fit in the back seat dressed the same. Oh well!

I'm not sure how you could barely fit, I'm 6' and drive with size 11-12 (don't remember) boots every day with 0 issues

That's funny, I'm always trying to devise ways of getting the pedals closer. I like to be able to push the gas and brake at the same time so that I can blip the throttle while downshifting. I usually have my toe on the brake and my heel on the gas with my left foot on the clutch. It's impossible (or at least uncomfortable) to do this if the pedals are too far apart.

That said, I've never driven a manual XJ. In fact, my XJ is the first automatic vehicle I've ever owned.

Easy to do with my size 13... Heel between brake and gas big toe on gas and little toe on brake. Makes it easy going from a dead stop on steep grades, just slip foot off the brake. Much easier than the sideways foot contorting in an old Chevy.

Im 6'1" and wear a size 12 and have no problems driving my Cherokee. Also I kinda like that the pedals are close together since it can just pivot my heel from the brake to the gas

See.... I have the exact opposite problem. I'm 6' and size 10boot..... but my brake and gas seem terribly far apart and make driving my xj for any long road trip a painful ride. My brake peddle is directly center of the steering wheel maybe even a tad left of it, and my gas is damn near touching my t-housing. My right leg ends up at such an angle that I find myself driving with two feet in any kind of traffic.
when I opened the thread I subbed to it immediately thinking it was about offset peddles to get them CLOSER !
98 automatic.
