Default OEM skid plate questions

Do all Cherokees have a factory gas tank skid? I just saw one on CL for cheap so I ran out to see if I had one, and lol I can't really tell. I have an 01 sport. There's a bunch of mud under it right now, I tried to feel the tank and it feels like hard plastic. Sorry for the dumb question haha. Thanks for the help

Good to know about the older ones. This one came off a 96. Anyone know if it will fit?

You would half to modify it. Search in Google for the mod if you want to do it.

Well, picked up a 96 skid plate today for $20. Read about modifying it so I think I'll give it a try. Better than nothing. Met a cool jeep owner too. He had that IRO 6.5" long arm kit. That kit is nasty. My little 3" looked tiny next to it.

Plan to cut the skid open and massage and weld it back up. It is way better than not having one cover that plastic tank. I had an early skid on my late model and it saved my tank for sure.

how much to cut it? I think this is the first I see about cutting the pre 97 skids to make it fit in post 97.

I had to cut aprox. 8" down each side on the seems and reshape with a hammer, the last 3" or so was to short to weld back up. You can kinda see from my picture.

I might weld some material in between where it doesn't reach. I'm planning on a solid afternoon to get this all done but I'm pretty excited

Btw, what rear bumper is that? The lines are great.

The ZJ skid fits with just redrilling the mounting holes.
