nv241 or d300
ok, so ive found a steal on both of these tcases... im looking for some input on which one would be worth the time and money to build. i really dont have much knowledge or experience with either but i want better than my 231j but cant afford an atlas nor do i have the desire to run dual cases. from all my research, i beleive ive narrowed it down to these 2 chioces, now i just wanna hear from some folks that actually know something about them. for now im planning on running my 4.0/aw4 but future plans will probally b a 5.0 thats in the shop... but thats gonna b a while

Neither of these is better than your 231.
The d300 is passenger drop. Do you have the tools and knowledge to clock it over? It really should be used in a doubler setup to be an upgrade.
The 241 sucks unless you are referring to the Rubicon 241or. In that case it would be worthwhile for the 4:1 low.
What kinda offroading do you do and how extreme do you plan to get? What makes you think you need a better Tcase?

well, im ironing the last few kinks out of my full width swap. i steeped up to a d44/d60 combo and im sitting on 37s now. i plan to be on 40s by the time im done. i know that at that point, my tcase will b my weakest link. what are some other good options?

The d300 is easy to flip.. there are a bunch of big buck flip kits, or you can call up D&D machine and get a set of his flip sticks. That and a clocking ring, and you are good. I would build the 300 over another chain driven case. YOu can twin stick it, 4 to 1 it, and upgrade the outputs to 32 spline. Definately better then the 241 case.
That being said... I would just build my 231 if I was getting a rubi 241... the 4to 1 kit from tera flex is cheaper then a used 241OR. also has 6 pinion planetaries, and the wider chain. They run about 1150 depending on where you get it from... but you should be able to buy everything to build your d300 for that.

I agree with pingpong, and he's built his rig way further than mine, so listen to his advice
Also if you plan on running 40's you might want to consider a doubler if you ever plan to drive this rig on the road at any speed. Not sure of your gearing choice for your axles, or what kind of terrain you wheel on, but gear reduction is your friend when it comes to larger tires. Dont forget tire size changes the effective ratio of your gears.
ive got 5.38s in my diffs right now. on 37s, i think ill b ok as far as streeting this thing. i really dont plan to take it out and just cruise too often so thats not a huge concern of mine. say i left my 231 with its current gearing, just got the wide beefier chain, and doubled it with a d300 geared up to 4:1... what would my final ratio be?

If you are asking what your final ratio will be if you doubled a 4to1 d300. You double low ratio at the t-cases will be 10.8. with your said gear ratio it would be 58.5, the rest would depend on your first gear ratio of your trans. if it is a manulal you will be around 220 to 1.. way too much for anything but sticky tires and slow motion.
I currently run a 231/231 doubler with 5.13's in my axle and an AX15 trans. My first gear dirty low is 142to1. Most of the time double low 1st is too low, but double low 2nd or 3rd works. I often times wish I had a 4 to 1 as well as the dirt low. I am running 36's so not much difference in tire size.

For the price of the dang 241or cases (about $1200) plus the cost of a speedo pulse converter $200 (if you need your speedo), you can completely build up a d300 with 4:1 and you will have a stronger gear driven case with twin shifters.
Better yet you could use the back half of your 231 for a doubler mated to a d300 and get a lower gear than you would with a teralow kit and 241, and also your normal low gear 2.72 and no chain for about the same price as a 241.
Flipping the d300 is very simple if you just use a flip ring and double seal your shift rails (the figure 8 retainer holds the second seal in).
I was making this same decision recently and was planning on doing a 231/300, but got a heck of a deal on a used klune v so I am now in the process of setting up a klune v / flipped d300 and using NWfab reverse cable shifters.
