Default newby lift questions or info please

I would like to lift my 2001 xj but dont want it to cost an arm and leg. I have
looked at many lifts and been told to do it right a lift would cost about 1600.00 thats a bit much. I have looked at a ZONE 3 inch with new leaf springs. would this be a good kit to start with?

who has one of these lifts and how do they ride.

Thanks
Dewey

i have heard thats a good kit. just upgrade the shocks and you should be good to go. 1600 is ridiculous for a 3 in kit. but then you also have to figure in tires and gears if you want them. that would put you closer to the 1600 mark.

You get what you pay for when it comes to suspension ask anyone who ran a cheap lift and switched to a good lift . Go Rubicon Express , or Old Man Emu lifts with Bilstein 5100's or Old man Emu shocks. Always get adjustable upper and lower control arms and trackbar. It cost more up front but less in the long run.

A decent Lift , Shocks , Sye, Driveshaft, Wheels, Tires, Upgraded Steering linkages , Gears &Lockers, Armor , And finally Recovery Gear. You'll be spending setting you back $ 4000-6000 to properly lift a vehicle that you plan on offroading. If that is too much money for you I suggest you look into another hobby. You gotta pay to play !

You can def. do it for less, like they said above save up & do it right the first time. Depending on what you are planning on doing with your XJ will depend on what lift to get & how much to spend. One place you don't want to skimp on is with the rear leaf's. Do not get the add a leaf kit. Be sure to get full leaf packs. 3" isn't bad, you can run 31" tires and it'll look good & 31's aren't too expensive...

Good luck.

I went with Tomken Machine's lift.... really happy with the ride & price was good...

In saying that, like Tom95YJ said... I've got $5,000 spent on my XJ, Bumpers @ $1,000, tires & rims $1,200, new axles & gears, lockers @ $2,500, recovery $800, and $2,000 in misc. and I still have sliders, skid plates, and other armor to go, along with regular maintenance...

I use it as a daily driver and mild off road with my kids. I only want to run a 31 inch tire.

1600.00 was for a lift only no tires or wheels and no sye or drive line.

when do you need to get a sye?

Thanks for you input

If you want a decent ride and around 3" of lift then buy the following, and be happy:

3" Rustys Coils
2" OME Leafs
1" Shackle of some sort
bilstein 5100s
Adjustable trac bar (id recommend double sheer) (Rock Krawler, RE, IRO)
Extended swaybar links or quick discos.
At least a good set of LCAs..uppers arent really needed with 3".. Id go for RE, Ironman, or a custom set with heims or Johnny Joints.

Around 4" or so normally. Every Jeep is different though.

It depends what is involved in the kit. With the three link are the arms chromoly, aluminum or chromoly? are there heims or rod ends at both ends of the arms?
If there some of these bells and whistles are included then thats a fair price, but for dom and bushings on one end with a x member and springs 1600 is still fair if rear springs are included.

On that note its much cheaper to build it. I have 39.5 irocks on double bead locks with 538 gears locked front and rear a 14 bolt with disc brakes and dana 60 front end with a dana 300 transfercase, exo cage and I have about 8k into it total at this point.

Are you looking for a cheap lift or something like a long arm kit?
