Default New sound from the 4.0?

Okay so on the way home today my '93 with the 4.0 started a new thing. A horrible tapping coming front the front of the engine, sounds like a 90's model powerstroke, cadence-wise. Changes speed along with the engine speed. Any help?

Check to see if your harmonic balancer has separated if it's coming from the FRONT of the engine.

How common is this? Age related or luck of the draw?

Yeah it's the harmonic balancer. It's no completely seperated but the outer ring is shaking on the inner ring, hitting the block in the process. That's where my noise is coming from.

Not surprised, given your description in your first post. Replace it.
