I just put in the hardest 3.5" lift on my 88 XJ and ran into this problem in the picture. Question 1 is how essential are the bump stop? Do I really need them or can I just remove them and be good? Question two is could this be because I need to replace a couple of things in the front end? I brought it o BigO to get new tires and alignment and they told me that the could not get an alignment because I had to replace some things. The list is exactly what BigO told me: Tie rod - Pitman arm, R/F Long Tie Rod/Drag Ling, Upper and Lower ball joints. The labor they quoted me was $740.00. Would replacing all of them and then an alignment make the bumpstop fit in the coil better? Where is the best place to buy these parts that I need because it is way too expensive, I think, at BigO. Thank you very much for any feedback.
Thanks!
Thanks!
Better pics would help.
DO NOT cut off your bump stops.
If your axle is not located properly then you need move it. Looks like your lower control arms need to move forward. Easily done with the OE shims.
As far as steering goes, you might want to get a more experienced CF member from your neck of the woods to help sort things out.
I wish you were closer to Co. Spgs, I'd gladly take a look at the heep for ya.

As Frank (I think?) from Serious said, don't cut those bumpstop plates off. You'll likely regret that rather quickly.
Get some shims and push your lower control arms out with the factory adjustment or get adjustable lower control arms to push your axle forward to eliminate the binding.

Thanks for all of the info. Where do I get the OE Shims? Do I just buy those from NAPA? Never used/heard of these before, so also how do they work? I was definitely planning on getting an adjustable track bar along with the other parts that I need to replace. Where is the best place to buy upper and lower ball joints, and the other parts that I need? I thought it was kind of wierd when I took off my stock lower control arms they were the same size as the new ones...

So I have decided to just get all new parts because shims seem more temporary than anything to me, I am **** that way. I am going to buy adjustable control arms to move that forward, and thinking of getting new bump stops. They have been rubbing against the coil for 3 weeks now, and hopefully did not run into too much damage to the coil.
