I build a new Stroker 4.6 out of my , 1999 4.0.
Whem I put it in it started and was running, I ran it on my friveway at 2000 RPM AS many here recomended. It even idled after it warmed up but it was running alittle rough. In hi d sight I should have left it alone. But I had a double roller timing chain when I took the engine out, I had the machine shop order my internal parts so I'd have everything right and he ordered me a single roller timing chain and gears. I didn't know if this was causing a problem so I asked him about it. He said no that's fine but I may be a tooth (gear tooth on cam) off . So I pulled the distributor and went one tooth and it wouldn't start. So I went two teeth in the opposite direction but I may have went three, it wouldn't start I went back one or two, you know from here . It was late I went to sleep, 3 days later I forgot what direction. So I started goinh around one tooth at a time because I didn't have help to find TDC. At one point I turned the rotor 180 degrees. So last night a friend came by and I got top dead center but wasn't sure where to set the distributor
chillton says remove the D cap and Mark the distributor where the rotor is but its in the wtong spot so now what? I winged it and she wants to start but won't. Any help would be greatly appreciated... Thanks....... Tom I LoveLthis Forum

Begin with this and see where the rotor is pointing.CRUISER'S MOSTLY RENIX TIPS
With #1 spark plug removed, turn the engine over clockwise using the 3/4″ front crankshaft bolt.
You will see the degree marks on your front cover and you will see the timing mark on the balancer. Mark them with chalk or white-out.
While turning the engine over, put your finger/thumb over #1 spark plug hole. As the mark on the balancer approaches the marks on the front cover, if you are coming up on #1 TDC, pressure in the cylinder will push on your finger. If there’s no pressure, you’re at #6 TDC and need to crank the engine over until you see the marks coming together and you get pressure. Set the mark on the balancer to the 0 mark on the front cover.
