I'm been searching for a new to me Cherokee Sport and think I found one a 2001. I'm planning to use it as a dd. I do not have any experience with Jeeps at all and need you guys to walk me to what i should be looking for.
I have a bronco 72 and I'm posting some pictures. I'm also posting pictures of the Cherokee I'm interested on. Thanks in advance for your input. This Cherokee has 150k miles and the asking price is 6K.

Looks like a good looking rig. Only issue that sticks out in my mind is its going to be a LP 30 instead of a Hp 30 (unless the PO transplanted it) and its more than likely got the 0331 head, which is a ticking time bomb waiting to crack.
As far as price and negotiating I can't help you..they go for difference prices all over the US, some guys will get on here saying 6k is outrageous and some will say its a steal
Looks like a good jeep tho, that winch and bumper is probably 1000$ setup and its probably a 3.5 to 4 lift sitting on 32's.

I'd prefer a 99 or older Cherokee, to avoid the 0331 head. And a 99 and older will have a high pinion front axle.
$6000 seems too high for me though. Down here I can buy a nice Jeep for $3k and less. And it would have to be perfect for me to spend that much on one even. But prices vary so much, they might just sell for more up there.
Nice Bronce btw, looks good.

Thanks guys, I'm going to find out if the 0331 head was replaced, if not I think I'll pass and concentrate on looking for a 1999. Thanks for the Bronco compliment.

Nope, not getting rid of the bronco. I has a 98 5.0 explorer engine/tranny with OD. Love to ride it on the summer. BTW really like your jeep, will have plenty of questions for you once I find one.

you gotit bro. whatever i can do to help.
that bronco is smokin hot. i've always wanted one. glad ur not getting rid of her.
its funny you mention 5.0 explorer motors. I decasted and paint/polished 2 upr intakes out of some and sold them for good money. i still have 3 uprs/lwrs left. we put one in my brother-inlaws 90 mustang vertable.
with stock 2.73 gears that intake and full exhaust, he smokes the tires through 3rd and grabs 4th sometimes. its so cool.
we've been doing alum rims resto and decasting/polishing for about 5 years now. its great side money. but busness has been dead.

I think as long as you maintain your cooling system you'll be fine with the 0331 head. Make sure it has coolant in it currently. IF it doesn't then I'd be concerned. I know plenty of people who've never had a problem with theirs, but they make sure to maintain the system. As long as you know to watch it I think you'd be fine. If it's just a DD then the low pinion axle won't be an issue. I say as long as it looks clean and the cooling system looks good I'd get it. You can always replace the head yourself with an older style one as preventative maintenance. Now if you are not good at maintaining your vehicles then I'd steer clear.

Like the other people said, it seems expensive even for Long Island. If you are willing to travel then search other parts of NY or even PA, this are common vehicles up here. Also I prefer the older style (pre 97), but that's me. Nice Bronco.
