All I know is it's not a Spartan..... I think.
Bought this off a guy who was in a hurry to move to Alberta. It has the 4:10 gears and the locker. 29 spline 8.25.
Cutting off the spring and shock perches right now. Putting anti wrap perches so I don't need axle shims and shock mounts closer to axle tube. Also have complete Liberty disc brakes going on it too.

Any numbers on it?

Where did it come from?

Are you sure it's a locker and not a Limited Slip?

Well the guy I bought it from said it was a locker.
And when I pulled the c clips from the axle I didn't see anyplace for friction discs.
It's sitting on some stands in the shed. I'll go take a picture of the inside with the axles out.

That is 100% a limits slip. Now, whose it made by beats me. Win it around and see if you find any production stamps as they should be on there.

How do you figure that? Every LSD I find uses spider gears.
The only Differential housing I can find by google that has a round access hole is OX.
and the only writing is something scribed on the housing. looks like date and installation clearances.

It could be be the way the pic is oriented but that looks like a spider the was it is perpendicular to the shaft. The only reason I saw limited slip is because every locker I seem does not have a housing like that, only the lim slips like auburn do. Furthermore, I'm not seeing any springs or nothing that would pushing the locking plates outward or inwards.

Went out again and took down the numbers scribed on case. Google has them as bus schedules or something in Chinese.

I looked into the little window on the side of the case to see if there were plates. Instead I found spiral gears. When I turned the gear the axle spline does ,the spiral gears also turn. You can see it plainly but I can't get camera to take a decent picture of it.

It may be an Eaton Detroit True-Trac Limited Slip Differential.

WOW. Just checked pricing on these. Over$600 for the 8.25.
I got the whole axle with the 4:11 for $300
Sometimes you just get lucky!!

Spiral Gears?
Sounds like it's a Detroit True-Trac....

If I'm correct, then you've got a Limited Slip and not a locker.

So what's your opinion of them? Everything I've read today says they are great. Just the price scares some off.

For what they are designed to do, they work well. Not the same as a locker but better than an open diff.

Yes you have a true-trac, that style was originally designed for road race use as it applies equal power to both wheels even when in a turn. The design was first created by Gleason then later he partnered up with Torsen who then bought out Gleason and later partnered with Zexel and so on and so fourth. The true-trac was introduced by Detroit and then Detroit was bought out by Eaton. Now you have an Eaton True-Trac Good units for what they were designed for. A lot of mild wheelers run them in the front diff since it allows for easy steering, Like I said they were designed and work best for road racing.
