Mod looks great. Anyone pull this off on an XJ with ABS brakes?

you would have to come up with an alternate solution - the intake needs to run to the cowl on the opposite side of the engine

I knew you were gonna say that. I think I will have to go with one of those ugly snorkles. I can't imagine the air being too cool after crossing over the engine

I just finished reading all 18 pages. Way cool!!! This is how I was thinking of mine, and this might help those with ABS. Might take a little more effort.
I was thinking on making the hole on the airbox to go through the side like the regular snorkel, but not all the way out. I will need to take the fender out, or at least loosen it to have access underneath. Then I will run the pipe under the fender and cut again towards the cowl area. Like that, my wiper reservoir will stay in the same place (My old man own an 87 waggy) and those with ABS will solve the issue at hand. I was also thinking, to open a hole up on the driver side, to take the pipe up, but having a threaded end, with the tractor style pre filter.
I dont know how many of u have noticed, but the military humvee's have an air filter, located on the passenger side. When they have to go through deep water, they use an extension, to raise the intake filter above the roof line, and put it away, when not needed. My idea is to have an extension for the pre-filter, so only when needed, will put it up, and store it for daily driving.

Going through the inner fender and out to the cowl might work if I can motivate myself to do it. I don't expect to cross water higher than my hood since it's still a DD, just trying to protect myself from that initial surge of water when you enter. Even bumper deep water comes up over the hood when you first enter, well the way I enter it does

Default question

how do you keep the water from just going into the cowl and down into the tube? like when it rains or anything

the cowl has large drains in each side. The water drains fast enough that it's not an issue. I tested it with a garden hose when i first installed it and many times thereafter when wheeling. Also the bottom of the intake tube is slightly above the bottom of the cowl void, so it can't just flow into the air box.

Bought my jeep with an open airbox. Will definitely need to do this modification when i find the time. Just wondering, What did you use to drill your hole in the cowl?

Ok other than being more expensive, does the spectre intake do anything better? Like is the cone filter it comes with better? If not I think I'm just going to go ahead and do this this weekend...
