That cut can potentially cause the C to crack, especially since the cut is square. The corners of that cut can cause stress risers that will lead to cracks. Best of luck to you.

So, would grinding the cut/easing it out. It is not like the hoop will be too big and the BJ won't hold. If is the sharp cut that is the issue. Additionally, this rig will only ever run 31's with the stock axle set up. it actually dosn't get wheeled much, and not hard. It is a Denver City Rig. Compared to my Ram 2500 and solid axle Suburban...when I lived in the mountains...the XJ was the little rig.
If I ever go bigger, I will build the proper axel anyway. I'm not worried.
