Loud squeal when accelerating
Ok this just started happening a few days ago and i've never heard it before. Only when i accelerate heavily does it make the noise. It is not the serpentine belt. It sounds like my flywheel coming in contact with something. Doesnt do it in reverse or if i go easy on the gas. It also does not make the noise when parked or in neutral. I put it in 4wd and turned and the noise got worse. I think it might be my tranny crossmember is flexing because i have a missing broken bolt. Any thoughts? Thanks

I just replaced my water pump for making a very loud and extremely annoying squeal. At first it wasn't bad, but then it started to get worse and worse to the point where even at idle it was loud. I dont think it would affect it any being in 4wd or not, but this is just my 2 cents. Check the pulley for the water pump, if it moves back and forth or up and down, you need a new water pump. Other than that I wouldn't know.

ya its definitly not anything in the pulley system. Its coming front the flywheel or torque converter or maybe the tranny. Im fairly sure its because of the tranny crossmember bolts being not so good. i'm going to cut some access holes in the floor to get at the bolts, then drill out the holes and put some new bolts and nuts in. I think i'll grab a piece of 1" square tubing to make it a t-case drop too.

Ive seen alot of trans go bad after a fluid change you may be needing a rebuild. Ive heard a rule to change fluid every 30k if you go over 60k dont bother. It seems to hold true sometimes, three people i know in the last two years have changed fluid after high miles and in short time trans needed work.
Put parking brake on and try to go slow, see if you here it squeal or feel slip.

Yeah I'm hoping not. Still shifts great everywhere I got. Tranny seems to be operating perfectly. It does squeal when I accel with the e rake on. That's really the only time it squeals. Under load.

not sure if you tired this yet you probably have but, maybe get the whole jeep in the air(jackstands) and have a buddy sit in the driver seat while you listen from underneath or the side? i know for fact noises travel because of vibrations so maybe just maybe the noise is throwing you off from where its coming from?

Ok so I'm pretty sure I'm a jackass. I was double checking the wiring on my elec fan that I mounted to replace the mechanical fan and I noticed something. The tin steel plate that is bolted on the fan to protect the elec motor has a ring scraped into it. When idling, the old fan bolts have 1/2" of clearance but UNDER LOAD the engine torques up and hits the fan shield!! Boot ends scraping sheet metal sounds like my problem. Gonna bend the shield later and see what happens.
