Default Long arm or short arm

Ive been lookin at long arm and short arm with drop brackets but i dont realy know what I need. I do a lot in the snow and mostly back roads and mild trails. but I like to have good clearance and not get hung up. also my DD. any input would be appreciated. any other decent kits for a good price? http://www.rubiconexpress.com/Lift-K...pn=R%2fERE6200

How about a mid-arm. Go with a good long arm kit for flex and better driveability.

I went through the "which lift kit to buy" experience awhile back. none really stood out for an affordable price. I'm in the process of building something similar to this list. maybe it will give you some ideas.

serious offroad RE 4.5" coils $68
OME 3.5" leafs $270
RE 5" shackle $74
rock krawler track bar $230
serious offroad long arms $750
bilstein 5100's $315
SYE $200
go-ferit tie rod flip taper $20
homemade discos
some junk yard brake lines and a trip to ACE for hardware.
that is a complete suspension for $1917
and you can use cheaper parts too to save even more money.

remember that those RE kit's you're looking at dont come with shocks

I would like to go long arm but dont have alot of this $$. what about upgrading to long arms later on unless its just best to do it first. what about the RC long arm kit and RE 5.5 with DB?

search for some threads about rough country and read some reviews. there's a difference in quality between the two companies. you need to do more research before making your purchase you dont really seem to know what you NEED

Rubicon express, from what i hear, is a great kit and if you plan to do moderate wheeling, then go for the Rubicon short arm kit.

i have drop brakets and i like emm they ride good and flex good. i'd go that way if your looking for lift and a ok ride. i do a lot of snow and its not bad. long arms of course are the best but drops arnt as terrible as people say. neither lare leaf srpings and im gonna run them F&R on 60's

i have yet to hang up a drop bracket.

4.5lift with drops

still long arms are best by far

.

if $$ is an issue and you cant wait to get a complete kit, long arms can be added later.

I'm telling you right now that piecing together a custom suspension that fits your wheeling needs is the best way. and usually cheaper than buying a kit

im running a pieced together kit.started out as a rustys three inch kit with full leafs.

added 2 inch blocks and 2 inch spacers. added RE single shear track bar. added re upper and lowers.

totaled that jeep.

suspension migrated to the 4dr added iro double shear trackbar, rc drop brackets and it did awesome with the drop brackets. they just kind of unnerved me so two yrs later i got a rc longarm upgrade and its the best thing i have done yet.

in short this is how mine sits now
3 inch rusts coils
3 inch rustys leafs
2 inch rustys block
2inch rustys coil spacer
rc longarm kit
iro double shear trackbar
rustys front bumpstops.
yj front brake lines
rc extended rear line
rustys steering conversion
rc drop pitman arm.

Pieced together my lift over the last 3 yrs. Started with 2" coils and AALs then added JKS BPEs and Discos and ran that for a couple of years

In the meantime I collected RE adjustable UCAs and LCAs (used for $150), RE drops and braces (used for $150), Kevin's Offroad Adjustable trackbar (new), JKS ACOS (new), TNT Boomerang shackles (used <$100), and finally 4" bastard packs that I mixed and matched with my original AALs to net me around 5.5". And I just got a used set (40% left) of 33x12.50 Dunlop Mud Rovers and rims for $175.

For what I plan to do long arms are a needless expense. I don't need 36" of travel in the front end because I'm not going to get that much out of the rear. I got my hard core rock crawling ya-yas out when I had my YJ and THAT was on 32s, 4" Trailmaster springs and a 1" bodylift.

Lifts CAN be had for cheap but it takes time and you have to be dilligent about checking the for sale sections of the various boards and craigslist.
