Also watch the bearing caps. Directions always tell you to mark them but they should always be identified by a letter that is stamped on the cap and the housing. Match vertical letter to vertical and horizontal to horizontal.

I have actually found shims in both locations.
Between the bearing and carrier and between the housing and the race.

Actually, the ring gear spins the pinion gear and the driveshaft anytime you are moving.......................So they are always "Engaged"

However, OP you should be alright as long as you didn't change the bearings, or mix up any of the shims................

Really the only thing that could affect your backlash would be if your carrier and/or ring gear had excessive runout.............
Since your ring gear has "Worn" in the same position on the carrier for it's entire life, and you have now changed it's position on the carrier...........It may change the wear pattern by a very slight amount..............

If it really worries you to the point where you'll lose sleep over it, get a cheap dial gauge and magnetic base from Harbor Freight. Google info on how to check backlash (it is super easy), and check it in 3 or 4 positions around the ring gear....................

LOL yes there are. I've used this name for over a decade and haven't run across it in any forums I use.

I thought that when the right axle disconnect is disconnected then the ring, pinion and front driveshaft stop rotating.

I thought at that point it was just the left axle and spider gears spinning....

OOOOHHH yeah with the locker it's all spinning......NVM!

You are fine, the gears on most differentials are hunting gears so gear orientation on the carrier makes no difference. On some older differentials from the mid 50's and older they did not so the same teeth would contact on every rotation. The wear could be different on the teeth so ring and pinion on those should be indexed so the same teeth are meshedd up upon re-installation. It was also common practice to index the carrier and ring gear to further aid in the re-installation. Or so I have been told.

I assumed the OP doesn't have the disco-axle, as their profile says "1992 Cherokee"
I thought the last year for the disco was in '90 or '91?
I could be wrong?

But with the Lokka, I'm sure it's going to spin the diff, and the driveshaft even with a disco axle................
