if you see snow, the detroit locker is your enemy on the street, but i just drive carefull and i am fine. i run a detroit locker in my rear D44, and a detroit truetrac up front in my HP D30. the tru trac is awesome in the snow, only pulls the wheel that is pulling the car. i love the tru trac up front, dont even know it is there on the street while in 2wd. the detroit locker will lock and unlock sometimes causing a CLICK sound from the back and a slight jerking motion, but if that bothers u, then you shouldnt have lockers...lol but offroad the thing is a beast and have never had an issue with it!

Thanks

The only quirkiniess I get out of the front in 2WD is in parking lots while turning tightly. It will rattle, ratchet, or pop lightly. Makes people look at you funny. Driving on roads, at hwy speeds, or in the snow the front gives me no problems.
The rear locker will chirp if you are on the gas in a corner. My rear Detroit will pop or bang sometimes when leaving a stop, but after 8 years there is only one tiny chip on one of the teeth inside it.
In light snow (less than 6" or so) when I'm taking off from a stop I will put it in 4WD because the rear locker will allow both wheels to spin and get the Jeep sliding. Once I get going I put it back in 2WD.
Winter '09 we got 26" of heavy snow in Va. I ran all over the place driving where snow plows hadn't been. I slid into a ditch while goofing off. The snow was upto my pasenger window on that side. I got out with a little effort. But that was my own fault for going in the ditch not the lockers.
Both my lockers have been put into different axle housings because the first housings I installed them in got bent during off roading. They still work like they did when installed.
The pic is my Detroit during inspection before I installed it in a new housing.

I personally don't like the lack of control with auto lockers but that's just me. However I ran truetracs front and rear for a couple years before I switched to ARBs and I loved them. I was expecting there to be a big improvement in performance with the ARBs but I was not very impressed. Overall I liked the truetracs better. The only advantage to the ARBs is when you have a wheel off the ground then they do work better. With the truetracs you had to use the brake a little to transfer power to the wheel that was on the ground if the other was in the air but not a big deal. Honestly my ARBs haven't taken me anywhere that I couldn't get with the truetracs. The truetracs are invisible and work excellent on the street, snow/ice, adverse weather and for the trails I run. Also theres no air pump or lines or switches to fail. Serious, if I could sell my ARBs for what I have in them, I would reinstall my truetracs and spend the $2000 elsewhere.

I run the Spartan locker in the D30 and Aussie in the 8.25. Love them both. I haven't seen snow with them in yet but I've been in the rain plenty of times. I feel that if you have a really good set of tires and you don't drive it like a maniac you'll be fine as far as handling ect...Remember it's a Jeep not a Corvette. I have Cooper STT's and these tires bite the road like no other tire I've owned. I did have another set where the tread was very low and almost did a spin out without trying. I notice most guys that run tires that are super aggressive for offroad or very low tread left have the problem with traction having the lockers. 2wd it's like you don't know they are in there. 4wd you don't know how you went that long without them.
